IOWA CITY — The song replacing “Wave on Wave” for the University of Iowa’s famed Iowa Wave won’t be just one song.
Each home game, the kid captain from the Stead Family Children’s Hospital will pick the song to be played for the tradition at the end of the first quarter, the university announced Wednesday.

“The response for a new song was incredible, and one suggestion we continued to hear was, ‘Let the kids decide,’” said Peter Matthes, the UI’s vice president of external relations, in a news release. “So that is exactly what we will do.”
The UI said in April it was retiring “Wave on Wave” as the song for the Iowa Wave. The previous plan was to have fans vote on a new song with the goal of unveiling a new song on Aug. 1.
