Iowa’s 2023 football recruiting class is coming together much quicker than the 2022 class.
At this time last year, Iowa had seven commitments in its 2022 class. Now, Iowa has 17 commitments in its 2023 class.
Here are the commitments by key Iowa targets from the last week:

Class of 2023 defensive back Kahlil Tate announced his commitment to Iowa on 247Sports’ YouTube page Tuesday. Tate said Iowa envisions him playing the Cash position. The three-star prospect also took official visits to Wisconsin and Purdue.
Class of 2023 defensive end/athlete Kenneth Merrieweather committed to Iowa on July 7. The Detroit prospect has three-star ratings from 247Sports and Rivals. His other offers included Cincinnati, Purdue, Indiana and Kentucky. He is not related to Iowa safety Kaevon Merriweather.
Committed elsewhere
Class of 2023 three-star offensive lineman Logan Howland chose Oklahoma over Iowa, Miami (Fla.) and Michigan. Howland, a high school teammate of Iowa quarterback commit Marco Lainez, took an official visit to Iowa at the end of June.
Class of 2023 running back London Montgomery committed to Penn State on Monday. A few days before committing, the three-star prospect released his top three schools, and Iowa did not make the cut. Iowa also did not earn an official visit.
Nolan Ray, a 2023 running back from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., committed to Maryland on July 9. The three-star prospect also took official visits to Iowa and Stanford.
Class of 2023 offensive lineman Miles Walker, who has a four-star rating from Rivals and three-star rating from 247Sports, committed to Ohio State on July 8. He received an offer from Iowa in May, but he did not take an official visit to Iowa City.
Class of 2023 defensive end Messiah Blair committed to Eastern Michigan on July 9, passing on offers from Iowa and other Power Five schools. Iowa offered the three-star prospect from Detroit in January and hosted him for an unofficial visit in May.
