Iowa offensive lineman Justin Britt enters transfer portal after being put on medical scholarship
Britt’s search for new football home officially begins

Mar. 24, 2023 1:50 pm
IOWA CITY — Iowa offensive lineman Justin Britt has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer, he announced Friday via social media.
“I want to thank Iowa football for an amazing time,” Britt said in a tweet. “Can’t wait to see where the next chapter begins.”
Friday’s news does not come as a surprise after Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz said last month Britt was on medical scholarship this semester with plans to graduate in May, essentially ending his Iowa career. (A medical scholarship does not count against Iowa’s 85-player scholarship limit.)

Shortly after the Ferentz news conference, Britt clarified in a tweet he had “not retired from football.”
Britt missed the entire 2022 season because of “recurring issues” with a previous knee injury, as Ferentz described it in July. He started Iowa’s first three games of 2021 at right guard.
As a grad transfer, Britt is not restricted to the two windows — one in winter and the other in May — for athletes to enter the portal. His March entry will give him a head start over players waiting until the May window.
