IOWA CITY — Iowa defensive end Joe Evans will return for a sixth season, he said Wednesday on social media, adding to what already would have been a deep position group in 2023.
Evans had eight tackles for loss and six sacks in 2022 as one of Iowa’s first-team defensive ends. The year before, he had a share of the team lead with seven sacks.
Evans said in a tweet the decision to return was “crystal clear.”

“I cannot pass up the chance to be a part of this team and this program again, to swarm out with my teammates and coaches in front of such great fans,” Evans said.
Evans had the option to stay for a sixth year because of the extra year of eligibility granted because of COVID-19.
