Iowa adds 1,351 more coronavirus cases, 68 confirmed deaths

Linn County adds 50 new cases, four deaths

Iowa added 1,351 coronavirus cases and 68 new deaths Tuesday, according to data analyzed by The Gazette.

The new numbers as of 11 a.m. Tuesday bring the state’s cases to 258,253 and the death toll to 3,337.

Linn County reported 50 virus cases and four deaths. The county’s has recorded 15,539 cases and 221 deaths.

Johnson County added 36 cases for a total of 10,391. The county reported no deaths Tuesday.

Polk County added eight deaths. Woodbury County added six and Black Hawk added four. Bremer, Jefferson, Muscatine and Webster counties each added three.

Buena Vista, Cerro Gordo, Clayton, Plymouth, Scott and Washington counties added two deaths each.

Reporting one death each were Benton, Carroll, Cedar, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Clinton, Dubuque, Floyd, Hardin, Henry, Jones, Lee, Mahaska, Marion, O’Brien, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Union, Wapello, Winneshiek and Wright counties.

One other death was listed, but was unclassified in terms of which county it stemmed from.

Hospitalizations across the state increased 34 to 798 over the 24-hour period ending Tuesday morning. Intensive-care patients increased by six to 166, and the number of patients on ventilators increased by two to 88.

As of Tuesday morning, 139 long-term care facilities across the state had virus outbreaks. Within those facilities, 5,550 people were COVID-19 positive. So far, 1,134 residents in facilities have died.

Locally, Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion added three new recoveries for a total of 59 among its 72 cases. Meth-Wick Health Center in Cedar Rapids added one new recovery among its 30 cases.

Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville added three new recoveries of its 29 cases.
