IOWA CITY — Kate Martin’s injury does not appear to be as severe as initially feared.
Martin, who suffered a shin injury in Iowa’s 87-64 women’s basketball win over Minnesota on Saturday, could be back in action as early as Sunday.
“Kate Martin is day-to-day, and Coach (Lisa) Bluder is hopeful that she will play against Northern Iowa on Dec. 18,” sports information contact Bailey Turner said in an email Monday.

A senior, Martin is a three-year starter for the 14th-ranked Hawkeyes (8-3). She is averaging 6.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game this season.
In other news, Caitlin Clark has been named Big Ten player of the week for the second straight week and 14th time overall.
Clark posted 51 points, 18 rebounds and 17 assists in wins last week over Iowa State and Minnesota.
