It’s not summer without a picnic, and this Freedom Festival signature event lets you parade your red, white and blue, too. So pack a picnic or purchase food and drink from vendors or nearby establishments, and head to Marion Square Park. It’s an all-ages event, with games from the past, inflatables and activity stations featuring Papa Balloon, face painting, caricatures, spin art and more. Thousands of photos of old Marion will be on display across the street at the Artisan’s Sanctuary. In a nod to the city’s train depot days, the Freedom Festival Express trackless train will be making the rounds, as well.

Patriotic Picnic

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (6/22), Marion Square Park, 1107 Seventh Ave., Marion; free; Freedomfestival.com/events/freedom-festivals-patriotic-picnic/136/
