“We all go a little mad sometimes. Haven’t you?” Norman Bates invites you to settle in for the night and scream along with Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece. Each suspenseful moment is more vivid with Bernard Herrmann’s bone-chilling score performed by Orchestra Iowa. Maestro Timothy Hankewich was heartened by last year’s sellout for “Casablanca,” which he called “a great experiment.” That’s what it takes to sustain this musical pairing. “A lot is riding when you do this sort of thing,” he said. And we wouldn’t want to make him mad.
