Iowa reports 55 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, two confirmed deaths

Iowa on Tuesday reported 55 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total of people in the state who have tested positive since the start of the pandemic to 374,253, according to data from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Iowa’s seven-day average for new cases is 78.
Of the state’s additions, nine were reported among people age 17 or younger, bringing the total of minors who have tested positive to 44,925.

Linn County reported four cases for a county total of 21,303 cases and a seven-day average of 4.
Johnson County added one case, bringing the county’s total to 14,648. The county’s seven-day average was two.
Confirmed deaths
The state reported two new confirmed deaths Tuesday.
The deaths were on April 10 and June 13. Both people were between 61 and 80 years old. One death was in Linn County, the other in Lee County.
To date, 6,148 people in Iowa have died from COVID-19.
Vaccinations
As of Tuesday afternoon, 1,445,345 Iowans were fully vaccinated. That’s 54.01 percent of people age 12 and older and 45.81 percent of the state’s total population.
The number of people fully vaccinated within the state, non-Iowans included, is 1,502,145.
In Linn County, 117,933 people are fully vaccinated. That’s 65.36 percent of those age 16 or older and 52.02 percent of the county’s total population.
In Johnson County, 87,238 people are fully vaccinated, accounting for 70.18 percent of people 16 or older and 57.72 percent of the total population.
Hospitalizations
Across the state, the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 on Tuesday was 76. Of those, 24 were in intensive care units and 12 were on ventilators to help them breathe.
Long-term care facilities
One long-term care facility continues to experience a COVID -19 outbreak, with nine people sick. An outbreak is considered three or more cases among a facility’s residents and staff.
To date, 2,373 people in long-term care facilities have died of COVID-19, accounting for roughly 38 percent of the state’s death toll.
