COVID-related hospitalizations dropped from 180 to 137 in Iowa last week, while intensive-care patients dipped from 17 to 16, according to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services data released Wednesday.
But the number of new COVID-19 cases in Iowa increased slightly, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported Wednesday.
There were 1,980 new cases reported in the past week, compared with 1,863 cases the previous week. The actual total is likely higher, given the availability of at-home test kits, which are not reported to the state.
To date, 868,595 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Iowa since the pandemic arrived in the state in March 2020.
In Linn County, 178 new cases were reported in the past week, down from 186 the previous week. The county has seen 61,766 cases since March 2020.
In Johnson County, 133 cases were reported in the past week, down from 139 the week before. Johnson County has had 43,086 cases.
The state confirmed 24 new deaths, including three in Linn County. Last week, the state number was 22.
Since March 2020, 10,253 Iowans have died from COVID-19. That number includes 632 deaths in Linn County.
