After seven consecutive weeks of lower case counts statewide, COVID-19 cases jumped 27 percent from 1,508 to 1,915 this past week.
To date, 862,925 people have tested positive in Iowa since the pandemic arrived in the state in March 2020, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health. The actual total is likely higher, given the availability of at-home test kits, which are not reported to the state.
In Linn County, cases increased by 56 percent in the past week from 135 cases last week to 211 new cases this week. Linn County has had 61,258 reported COVID-19 cases in all.
Johnson County saw a 14 percent jump from 124 to 141. The county has had 42,694 cases since the start of the pandemic.
The state confirmed 25 deaths from the virus in the past week. Last week, that number was 27. The total number of reported Iowans who have died from the virus is 10,177.
Linn County added one death for a county total of 628.
After being at its lowest since May last week, the number of patients hospitalized increased from 144 to 153 this week. Intensive care patients also increased from 12 to 19.
