#oniowapod talks Iowa football recruiting, and your questions

Today's episode starts with what The Athletic's Scott Dochterman and I feel is an uptick in recruiting for Iowa football.

It's kind of convoluted and maybe a little jumpy, but I think if you look closely, yeah, you kind of see it. I was open to this because during my interview in February with recruiting coordinator Kelvin Bell, he talked about all of the data the staff has collected over the years on reasons why players thrive or bust out at Iowa.

Maybe this is where having a coach for 20 years is a really good thing. You can measure what works and what doesn't over a solid period of time.

What I would've done and still would be doing is building case studies for every player who walks in the door. Where did they thrive? What were the obstacles? Why does a kid leave? Why does a kid stay?

Twenty years of case studies is a lot of data and can serve as a manual for recruiting. What did the staff do given this set of variables? Yes, each case is different, so you're always adding to the manual.
