IOWA CITY — Iowa’s 2023 football recruiting class has a relatively local footprint so far.
The Hawkeyes picked up a commitment from Marion standout Alex Mota last week, marking the second Gazette area commitment for 2023.
Here are some details on the addition of Mota and other recruiting tidbits from the last week:

Alex Mota, a wide receiver in the 2023 class, announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes on Feb. 18. Rivals and 247Sports both rate the 6-foot-1 prospect as a three-star athlete.
Mota also had offers from Iowa State, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Kansas, among other schools. Iowa State was the first Division I program to offer him.
His decision gave Iowa its fifth commitment of the 2023 class. The Hawkeyes now have the 13th-best 2023 recruiting class, according to Rivals. 247Sports has Iowa ranked 17th.
Offers
Leighton Jones, a 6-foot-4 offensive lineman in the 2023 class, received an offer on Feb. 21. The Brownsburg, Ind., native picked up an offer from Purdue on the same day. Those two offers were his first two from Power Five schools.
Jones also has offers from Ball State, Ohio, Miami (Ohio) and other Group of Five schools. He said in an earlier tweet he’ll be in Iowa City for the Hawkeyes’ junior day on March 5.
Iowa offered 2024 prospect Brady Preiskorn on Feb. 22. The 6-foot-6 tight end already has no shortage of suitors. Michigan and Michigan State offered him last month.
In February alone, Ohio State, Florida State, Ole Miss and Cincinnati have been among the many schools to offer the Rochester, Mich., prospect.
Visit scheduled
Kadyn Proctor, the top in-state 2023 prospect, will take an unofficial visit to Iowa on April 5, according to a 247Sports report. The five-star offensive lineman included the Hawkeyes in his list of top seven schools earlier this month.
