IOWA CITY — Iowa quarterback Deuce Hogan is in the transfer portal, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed Tuesday.
The third-string quarterback only played in one game in his two years at Iowa, throwing and completing one pass for two yards on Oct. 1 against Maryland.
Hogan was a highly-touted recruit who chose Iowa over several major college football programs, including Georgia, Baylor and Tennessee. Rivals rated him a four-star prospect and the 12th-best quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class.

“He wants to get somewhere where, I think, he feels he has a little better opportunity,” Ferentz said.
The news comes four days after Ferentz joked in a postgame news conference about what it would mean if Hogan had to start the Nebraska game.
“If it was Deuce, with all due respect to Deuce, I might’ve stayed in Iowa City,” Ferentz said on Friday.
Ferentz said Tuesday “in retrospect” he wouldn’t have made that comment after Friday’s game.
“Probably would’ve been more appropriate if I said our third quarterback instead of naming his name,” Ferentz said Tuesday. “I’m not real comfortable with any third quarterback being in the game until they get to work as a one or two.”
