University of Iowa men’s basketball guard Connor McCaffery will return to the Hawkeyes for a sixth season.
He announced his decision at the season-ending banquet Thursday night.
McCaffery will take advantage of the bonus COVID year of eligibility that is available to student-athletes who were on rosters during the 2019-20 season.

He was a key veteran presence off the bench in Iowa’s 26-win 2021-22 season, a player often assigned to help guard players bigger than him. He averaged 2.5 points, but had consecutive games of 11 and 17 points during the run in which the Hawkeyes won eight of their last 10 regular-season contests
McCaffery has played in 134 games for the Hawkeyes with 67 starts. He appeared in four games in 2017-18 as a freshman before taking a medical redshirt. He was fourth in the nation in assists-to-turnover ratio in 2019-20.
