I have lived in Marion for almost 57 yrs. I remember the billboard on the East end of town announcing, 'If you lived in Marion, you'd be home.” Even after that sign was long gone, I still remember it. That sign explained to everyone what a great small town they were living in or passing.
I cant turn that clock back, nor would I want to. But we as a community need to come together more than try to drive it apart.
I started looking more closely at city government and saw that there was a lack of vision toward citizens living here. There was an indifference to citizens on low incomes and fixed incomes.
City Hall has passed, to date, six fees onto the citizens, and then passes those same fees onto business. If you live here and own a business you pay twice, even though our city manager stated recently we not only meet our finances but exceed it.
On the surface it seems that our community has gone from a loving and caring one to one where your value is how much you can give City Hall.
I ask citizens one question - Who spends your money better, you or the city? And to figure out that answer, just look back a few weeks when the council voted to raise your electric fees, while voting down the city's increase.
Do you feel the love? I do and it's time for a change.
