I have been very involved in the Cedar Rapids Community School District for many years, having three children come up in this district from preschool all the way through high school. All three of our children have graduated from Washington High School. Our youngest child just graduated in May of this year and now we have three children in college — two at UNI and one at Kirkwood.
Our children have been very active in our community making very positive impacts. My husband, Mr. Dedric Roundtree, has been an educator in this district for about 16 years. And has been a very strong, positive, impactful male role model to students and families in this community.
I have volunteered many years throughout our children's schooling and have built relationships with students, families and staff at each school my children have attended — Monroe, Polk, Garfield, Franklin and Washington High School. Our children have been involved with so many activities during their school years in our district. From show choir to football, cheerleading, speech, track, Playtime Poppy and so much more.

My husband and I are super active and very involved parents in the schools and in our community. Oftentimes, we would be parents in place for kids who had no one to show up for them at games and competitions. I've worked at Washington High School since 2019 and I've witnessed so many things up close and personal. As a student and family outreach advocate I've walked very closely with students and families who have been devastated by loss and other very hard calamitous situations.
I will represent the underrepresented. I'll bring a new voice, new vision and a listening ear. I will advocate for what is best for our students, staff and their families. With my extensive involvement in this school district, I feel I owe it to our students, staff and community to advocate for what will benefit them the most.
Marcy Roundtree is a candidate for Cedar Rapids School Board.
