Although Kim Reynolds isn't formally a candidate yet, the University of Iowa College Republicans has endorsed her for governor in 2018.
While serving as lieutenant governor before Gov. Terry Branstad resigned to be ambassador to China, Reynolds 'was instrumental in fostering an environment of economic growth and prosperity,” says organization Chairman Pat Wronkiewicz. 'As a college student, this is encouraging, because I know her policies will help me as I look for postgraduate employment.”
The message the UI Republicans will seek to share across campus during the upcoming year is that Iowa's unemployment rate of 3.1 percent is below the national average and jobs are up 1 percent from last summer. With other key issues affecting students, such as education funding, expected to be hot topics during the 2018 legislative session, the college Republicans are confident Reynolds' actions will rally students behind her. The gubernatorial election is in November 2018.
