DES MOINES - Iowa Senate Democrats re-elected their top leaders for another two years.
Majority Leader Mike Gronstal of Council Bluffs and Senate President Pam Jochum, of Dubuque were re-elected Sunday by Senate Democrats.
'We will focus on broadly supported, common-sense measures to expand and strengthen Iowa's middle class,” Gronstal said in a media release. 'The most serious economic challenge we face is that the recovery has yet to reach the broad majority of Iowans.”
Gronstal has served as the Senate's majority or minority leader since 2001.
Jochum just finished her first two-year term as Senate president.
Three new state senators were elected to leadership positions: Chaz Allen of Newton, Tony Bisignano of Des Moines and Kevin Kinney of Oxford.
Sen. Joe Bolkcom of Iowa City was re-elected as majority whip. Sens. Mary Jo Wilhelm ofCresco, Amanda Ragan of Mason City, Matt McCoy of Des Moines and Bill Dotzler of Waterloo were re-elected as assistant majority leaders.
