According to the National Weather Service, we can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 22 today in the Cedar Rapids area. Wind chill values could be as low as -20. Winds from the south, 5 to 10 mph. Then tonight, mostly clear, with a low around 15.
A Cedar Rapids man was arrested and jailed Sunday on suspicion of robbery after police said he entered a home with a loaded handgun, demanding marijuana from the residents. 20-year-old Dewayne Hunt is accused of entering a Cedar Rapids home in the 1600 block of Eighth Avenue SE on New Year's Day. Police said he had a loaded Glock handgun and demanded marijuana from two people in the home. During a struggle with the residents, Hunt fired a shot from the handgun. Hunt was held by the victims until police officers arrived, according to the criminal complaint. Hunt is charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison; felon in possession of a firearm; and carrying a concealed weapon. He is being held on $35,000 cash or surety bond.
In the Citrus Bowl on Saturday, Chris Rodriguez ran for a 6-yard touchdown with 1:48 to play, and Kentucky rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Iowa Hawkeyes 20-17. DeAndre Square intercepted a Spencer Petras pass with 48 seconds to play to clinch the victory. Iowa had dominated Kentucky in the second half before the final drive, when the Wildcats drove 80 yards in eight plays.
