A year after a judge let Hawkeye head football coach Kirk Ferentz and offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz postpone until after the season their sworn depositions in a discrimination lawsuit from former players, the coaches still haven’t sat for them and are still seeking to delay them.
But former players suing them for discrimination, retaliation, and systemic racial hostility are firing back – accusing the coaches of dodging, delaying, and hiding behind attorneys to avoid producing court-compelled records and participating in the legal process.
Hawkeye offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz — among several defendants facing accusations of racial discrimination in a lawsuit filed by former players — wants a judge to rule in his favor and essentially drop the case against him, calling the claims “meritless, unsupported, and contrary to law.”
More than a year after 13 former Hawkeye football players filed a lawsuit accusing some University of Iowa athletics staff of racially motivated discrimination and harassment, attorneys are accusing UI of “persistent and intentional subversion” and delay tactics and asking a judge to intervene.
