Linn-Mar climbed into The Gazette’s Class 5A poll this week at No. 9. Iowa City Liberty entered the Class 4A poll at No. 8.
Suddenly, the Week 2 game between the Lions and Lightning in North Liberty became one of the highlights of Friday night’s Iowa high school football slate.
The Lightning bolted to a 25-0 halftime lead at home, then held on for a 25-14 win. It’s their second win over a 5A Top 10 team, including last week’s 36-19 victory over Iowa City High over Kinnick Stadium, and one of 10 ranked matchups this week.
