MARION — Problems with the installation of new artificial turf at its stadium is forcing Linn-Mar’s football team to play its first home game of the 2022 season elsewhere.
Linn-Mar head coach Tim Lovell said Tuesday the Lions’ scheduled home opener Sept. 9 against Pleasant Valley will be played at Cedar Rapids Prairie’s John Wall Field instead. He said the school hopes its second home game, Sept. 23’s homecoming affair against Cedar Rapids Jefferson, will be back at Linn-Mar Stadium.
The schedule is favorable for Linn-Mar when it comes to not having to find other places to play. Its first two games are on the road at Muscatine and Iowa City Liberty, and its fourth is at Cedar Rapids Washington.
Lovell said his team is practicing at Oak Ridge Middle School. He was head coach at Marion in 2020 when its stadium at Thomas Park was destroyed by a derecho, the school playing its home games that season at Linn-Mar.
