CORALVILLE — As the holidays arrive, a few nonprofit organizations are getting extra reception for food assistance this year from a wireless carrier.
Last week, UScellular donated more than $6,000 to three organizations: $5,000 worth of commercial kitchen equipment to support Coralville Community Food Pantry’s “More Than a Pantry” campaign; $600 to Green Square Meals in Cedar Rapids; and $500 to Marion Cares.
The new kitchen equipment in Coralville includes a smoker and stand, double fryer, rice cooker, food processors, mixers and accessories as the Coralville Community Food Pantry looks to build a 5,000-square-foot addition that will allow for more food storage, a shopping area, educational garden, patio with picnic tables, an outdoor cooking area and community refrigerator.

“Green Square Meals, Marion Cares and the Coralville Community Food Pantry do so much for the community, so we wanted to fulfill their wish list and help them deliver the much-needed support they provide throughout the Corridor,” said Brett Kedley, UScellular’s retail store manager in Coralville. “Food has the power to connect people. We believe every family deserves to come together, strengthen ties and make memories this time of year.”
The donations are part of the company’s holiday campaign to support more than 135 organizations across the country, including food banks, pantries and shelters. Since 2009, the company has donated more than $22.6 million to nonprofits.
