The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library may be closed, but people can still get a taste of Czech culture with a virtual five class course on classic and modern Czech cuisine.
Chef Tom Slepicka graduated from culinary school in Brno, Czech Republic and started a full-service catering company before moving to the United States in 2014.
For this series, he will teach the following recipes: mushroom sauce and dumplings on May 27; Czech open-faced sandwiches on June 6; Czech honey barbecue ribs on June 13; Czech soups on June 24; and dumplings filled with sauerkraut on July 1. Wednesday classes will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday classes will be 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Classes are $20 for National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library members and $25 for non-members. Members who register for the whole series will pay $90; non-members will pay $115. After registration, participants will receive a confirmation email with information on how to access the class.
Participants will need high-speed internet and a computer, tablet, or smartphone to access the course content. A webcam and microphone is needed to interact with Slepicka during class. Shopping lists and recipes will be emailed at least a week before each class, so participants can purchase the ingredients.
