Camp Courageous pineapples and party
The 44th Annual Pineapple Sale for Camp Courageous in Monticello began July 29 and runs through Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at more than 30 Hy-Vee food stores in Eastern Iowa.
The annual fundraiser that started in 1978 with a few United Airlines employees has turned into one of the camp’s largest fundraisers. Hy-Vee stores compete on displays and money raised, and have other special events in stores. Participating locations include those in Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Iowa City and Marion.
The 42nd Annual Pineapple Gala will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the downtown Cedar Rapids DoubleTree Convention Center. The event is one of Iowa’s largest charity silent and live auctions, featuring hundreds of items, including a weeklong stay at a Colorado mountain chalet, and a new boat.
Gala tickets are $60 per person or $600 for a table of 10, and include a Hawaiian dinner, entertainment and a drawing for a trip to Hawaii. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Charlie Becker at (319) 465-5916, Ext. 2100, or email cbecker@campcourageous.org.
Now in its 47th year, Camp Courageous is a year-round recreational and respite care facility for people with special needs, serving 10,000 campers annually. It is run primarily on donations.
