Before and after: Satellite images show how the derecho changed Eastern Iowa’s landscape

These satellite images from Google Earth show the drastic change in what Cedar Rapids and Marion looked like before and after the Aug. 10, 2020, derecho.

Linn County lost 1 million trees in the derecho, with 669,000 trees destroyed in Cedar Rapids, according to ReLeaf Cedar Rapids officials working to replant the lost tree canopy.
