More than 170 Iowa Lottery retailers won $1,000 or more between July 2013 and mid-November, for a combined $1.57 million. At least nine retailers who won $10,000 or more bought the tickets in the stores where they work -- some even validating their own wins.

More than 4,000 Iowa facilities reported storing large quantities of hazardous chemicals in 2013. Public and private facilities are required by law to report chemical stores to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and local emergency responders so agencies are prepared in case of a spill, leak, fire or explosion. The Gazette is focusing on five chemicals identified by Eastern Iowa emergency responders as both common and dangerous.
