Tyrese Hunter, the point guard who was the Big 12’s men’s basketball Freshman of the Year in 2021-22 for Iowa State, is transferring to another (for now) Big 12 Conference school, Texas.
Hunter, from Racine, Wis., averaged 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game for the 22-win Cyclones. He made seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points in Iowa State’s NCAA tournament 59-54 first-round win over LSU.
Hunter had six finalists for his next stop after he announced he was leaving Iowa State. They were Tennessee, Kansas, Louisville, Gonzaga, Texas and Purdue.
