Iowa State women’s basketball has the benefit of a talent-rich roster, with starters and bench players bringing key contributions on most nights. But Wednesday against No. 15 Texas — a team the Cyclones haven’t beaten at home since 2015 — the seventh-ranked Cyclones will miss two of their best players in Ashley and Aubrey Joens.
The Iowa State athletics department announced Wednesday that Ashley, the Cyclones’ leading scorer and No. 16 in NCAA Division I at 20.3 points per game, along with her sister Aubrey, Iowa State’s best 3-point shooter at 47.4 percent, were unavailable for Wednesday night’s game due to Big 12 health and safety protocols, along with freshman guard Denae Fritz.
ISU (16-1, 5-0 Big 12) enters the game on a nine-game winning streak and plays another 15th-ranked opponent, Baylor, on Sunday.
