Three juveniles charged as adults in November drive-by shooting in Linn County

CEDAR RAPIDS — Three juveniles have been charged as adults in relation to a drive-by shooting that occurred in November in Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha.
On Nov. 20, Sydney Miller was driving near C Avenue and East Blairs Ferry Road when he encountered a vehicle occupied by four juveniles, who began shooting at him. The juveniles followed Miller down C Avenue to Tucker Street, to B Avenue, to E Clark Street, to Center Point Road, to Boyson Road and then to Robins Road, shooting at him the entire way, according to criminal complaints.
The juveniles continued pursuing Miller’s vehicle to County Home Road, where they encountered Hiawatha police and were apprehended after trying to run on foot. The complaints don’t state whether Miller was injured in the shooting.

Hiawatha and Cedar Rapids police responded to the incident and located spent shell casings along the path the drivers took. Multiple vehicles sustained gun damage.
Three of the juveniles are identified in criminal complaints as Carson Kadin Mason, 15, of Cedar Rapids, Miykael Yahqob Jolliff, 17, of Hiawatha and Cornelius Nathaniel Jackson-Frazier, 17, of Cedar Rapids. The other juvenile was not identified in the complaints and is not currently facing adult charges.
The car the juveniles were driving, a 2022 Kia, was found to be stolen, and three guns, also stolen, were found in the possession of the juveniles and in the car.
Jolliff and Jackson-Frazier, both 17, were charged in adult court immediately. Jackson-Frazier was charged with one count each of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony and control of firearm by a felon, all felonies. He was also charged with use of a dangerous weapon in commission of a crime, reckless use of a firearm, minor armed with a dangerous weapon and interference with official acts, all misdemeanors.
Joliff was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, trafficking in stolen weapon used in crime, going armed with intent, conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony and interference with official acts - firearm, all felonies. He’s also facing misdemeanor charges of use of a dangerous weapon in commission of a crime, reckless use of a firearm, and two counts of minor armed with a dangerous weapon.
Mason’s case started in juvenile court and was transferred to adult court on Friday. He is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, all felonies. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, reckless use of a firearm, minor armed with a dangerous weapon and interference with official acts.
Mason had his initial appearance in the district court Tuesday. Jolliff and Jackson-Frazier both have jury trials scheduled to start Feb. 21.
