IOWA CITY - The death of a longtime University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics administrator has now been ruled a homicide, Iowa City Police announced Sunday night.
JoEllen Browning, 65, was found dead Friday morning in her house at 114 Green Mountain Dr., on Iowa City's east side. Browning had been director of budgeting at the UI hospital since 1977, according to her LinkedIn profile.
'Based on initial information, including preliminary autopsy results, the incident is now being investigated as a homicide by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa City Police Department,” Police reported Sunday evening. 'To maintain the integrity of the investigation that is in its initial stages, no additional information is being released.”
Capt. Bill Campbell said Sunday afternoon police could not say whether a suspect was in custody or whether the public had cause for alarm. He said community members should follow general safety advice, such as locking the doors to their houses.
Emergency responders were called to the house Friday morning around 7 a.m. The death was determined to be suspicious Friday.
The house on Green Mountain is owned by Browning and her husband, Roy Browning Jr., 66, who is owner of Promo Logic LLC, an apparel and promotional products company, Iowa Secretary of State's Office records show.
