Sheriff: Shooting in rural Springville was murder-suicide

SPRINGVILLE — A shooting that resulted in the death of two women in rural Springville in February was a murder-suicide, according to a Thursday news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Debra Nadine Mayfield, 68, and Karie Jane Mayfield, 43, a mother and daughter, were found dead by sheriff’s deputies at 2561 Jordan’s Grove Rd. shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 28.

Based on crimes scene evidence and witness interviews, investigators determined that Karie Mayfield shot and killed Debra Mayfield and then shot herself. Both women lived at the house.

The investigation into the case is officially closed, according to the release.
