IOWA CITY — Iowa City police are investigating after gunfire erupted early Sunday on the Pedestrian Mall in Iowa City.
Police said shots were fired around 1:10 a.m. after a fight broke out among several people in an alley behind the Fieldhouse bar.
One person fired several shots with a handgun into the crowd, police said, and a 24-year-old woman and 17-year-old boy were struck. They both sustained what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.
Police released a video of the incident and are asking for help identifying those involved.
The University of Iowa sent a Hawk Alert at 1:41 a.m. to notify the campus community that shots had been fired in the area.
The incident happened hours after the Iowa City Downtown Block Party wrapped up.
Around 9 p.m. Saturday, a separate shooting happened on Arthur Street, though police said they don’t think the two are related. Police also have not determined whether the weekend shootings are related to other recent shootings in Iowa City.
