Police arrest suspect in armed robbery at Smokin’ Joe’s in southeast Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man is accused of robbing a liquor store Thursday night.
Police said Dushaun Xavier Scott, 27, displayed a firearm and demanded cash at Smokin' Joe's, 2315 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, shortly before 10:30 p.m.
According to the criminal complaint, Scott told the clerk 'give me everything” and said he had lost his daughter and needed $10,000.

He fled on foot, police said.
A police K-9 officer and his K-9 partner were brought in to track him, and officers were able to collect pieces of evidence that likely were dropped as he fled.
The search led to a residential area near of 24th Street and 12th Avenue SE. The K-9 indicated the Scott was in the backyard of one of the residences.
As police were establishing a perimeter, a gunshot was fired from the backyard of a residence. The criminal complaint states the gunshot was an 'accidental discharge” from a 9 mm gun in Scott's possession.
No one was injured, police said.
Officers arrested Scott without incident.
Cash, cigarettes and cigars that were stolen from Smokin' Joe's were recovered, along with items that belonged to the clerk, police said.
Scott faces one count of first-degree robbery and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.
