Officials find body while searching for missing kayaker in Indian Creek
Law enforcement searching for a missing kayaker in Indian Creek found an unidentified body Thursday downstream from where the man capsized on Labor Day.
According to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, members of the sheriff's office, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department and canine handlers accompanied by cadaver dogs were searching for John Michael Conley, 34, who was reported missing Monday after he and his wife's kayak capsized in Indian Creek.
The couple's kayak hit debris and overturned Monday about ¾ miles upstream from the Rosedale Road SE Bridge. At 3:36 p.m. on Thursday, according to the release, 'a male subject was found deceased in Indian Creek approximately 200 meters north of Mount Vernon Road,” a little over a mile from where Conley went missing.
Personnel on scene could not identify the body, which was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, according to the release.
The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate, according to the release.
