CEDAR RAPIDS — A man who was shot by Cedar Rapids police officers early Saturday has been identified by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation as Brandon Lee Nelson, 23, of Cedar Rapids.
Nelson is being treated for gunshot wounds at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and his discharge is pending, according to a news release.
He was shot around 4 a.m. Saturday after two officers pulled him over for erratic driving in the 2200 block on Glass Road NE, just west of Interstate 380. “The driver of the vehicle brandished a firearm and gunfire was exchanged between the driver and two Cedar Rapids police officers,” the DCI said in a news release.

The division did not say whether the officers remained on duty or had been placed on administrative leave while the investigation was underway. The names of the officers will be released after they have been interviewed by the DCI, the division said.
The DCI said in a news release it had been asked by the city to help investigate the shooting.
