Linn County Sheriff’s Office investigating suspicious death in rural Marion

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a female who was brought to the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room in Hiawatha Wednesday night, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The female was not breathing when she arrived at the hospital and she was pronounced dead. She didn’t have any obvious injuries to show the cause of death. Her body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
The Hiawatha Police Department initially responded to the hospital to investigate the death. Investigators now believe the incident that led to the death occurred in rural Marion, in an area under county jurisdiction.

The investigation has been transferred to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, and the Linn County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The name of the victim will be released after family members have been notified, according to the release.
