Iowa City Police respond to armed man in bus depot

The Iowa City Police Department responded to an armed man in the Court Street Parking Ramp bus depot Monday afternoon, according to a news release from the department.
When police were called around 2 p.m., the man was inside the bus depot with a woman and children. He made threatening comments toward officers and fled into the parking ramp with the woman.
A perimeter was established around the area, staff were evacuated from the parking ramp and community members were advised to shelter in place, the release states.

Police attempted to establish communication with the man and de-escalate the situation, but he ended up shooting himself. Aid was rendered on scene and he survived. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and is stable.
No other injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
