IOWA CITY — An Iowa City man faces several charges stemming after police responded to a report that he fired a weapon in a High Street residence early Sunday.
Robert Jones, 32, faces 10 charges including intimidation with a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, all felonies. He also faces six counts of child endangerment and possession of a weapon while under the influence, according to Iowa City police.
Officers were called to Jones’ residence shortly before midnight for a report of a man firing a gun inside the residence. A caller told police Jones pulled out a pistol after an argument, said he was “tired of this s***” and fired a single round into the wall.
Two women were in the room when Jones fired the weapon, police said. Policle found a bullet that passed through a wall and lodged into the ceiling of a room adjacent to a bedroom where six children were sleeping. No one was injured.
Police located Jones in the 300 block of Morningside Drive. During a search, they discovered a bag of nearly 8 grams of marijuana and a loaded handgun magazine that matched the pistol found by police and a K-9 unit. Jones showed signs of impairment, police said, and a test determined he had a blood alcohol level of .144.
He was being held in the Henry County Jail.
