IOWA CITY — An Iowa City man is accused of sexually abusing a woman nearly two years ago.
Juvell L. Campbell, 34, was arrested Monday, police said. He faces one count of third-degree sex abuse.
A woman told police on Aug. 25, 2019, that she had been sexually assaulted.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, the woman got into an Uber car parked near The Graduate Hotel around 2:46 a.m. that day and refused to get out. Responding officers spoke with the woman, who was “shaken, crying and upset” and said she had been sexually assaulted nearby.
She went to a hospital, where evidence was collected, police said. Evidence was sent to the Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Lab and the DNA profile for an unknown man was developed.
The investigation eventually led police to Campbell. His DNA was collected and found to match the unknown DNA profile developed by the DCI, police said.
Third-degree sexual abuse is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
