Jan. 22, 2018 1:09 pm
IOWA CITY - The trial for a man accused of killing an Iowa City bail bondsman last year is now set to take place in Polk County this summer.
According to court documents filed last week, Curtis C. Jones' first-degree murder trial for the April 22, 2017 death of Jonathan Wieseler has been scheduled to begin July 16 in Polk County. The trial, originally slated to begin in Johnson County next week, is expected to last two weeks.
Jones was arrested for Wieseler's death in November. Authorities said Jones shot the bail bondsman sometime between 10:20 and 10:32 p.m. April 22 at Lederman Bail Bonds, where Wieseler worked. Police said the shooting occurred during a robbery.

Jones had previously been in custody for the death of Iowa City cabdriver Ricky Lillie. Authorities said Jones shot Lillie on June 27 after riding in his cab to the 500 block of Ernest Street. Jones' trial for that case is scheduled to begin on April 9 in Scott County.
First-degree murder is a Class A felony punishable by life in prison.
