Husband of Coralville City Council member charged with sexually abusing a child

A Coralville man, who owns a child care center with his wife, was arrested Monday on charges of sexually abusing a 4-year-old child while the child was in his care.

Jeffrey Lee Dodds, 63, is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse. He made his first appearance Tuesday morning and was released from jail Tuesday after posting a $40,000 cash-only bond.

The abuse happened in November, according to a criminal complaint against Dodds.

A no-contact order has been filed on behalf of the alleged victim.

Dodds and his wife, Coralville City Council member Jill Dodds, own and operate Simple Abundance Child Care, which is registered in Iowa as a Category C Child Development Home, according to their website.

Jeffrey and Jill Dodds care for 12 children up to 5 years old, the website states. They’ve been in business since 1998 and have several certifications. Both are mandatory reporters of child abuse.
