Police swarmed a heavily-trafficked area of First Avenue East in Cedar Rapids after gunfire was reported early Thursday afternoon.
One gunshot was reported around 12:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of First Avenue East, a neighbor said. Police said there was no apparent injuries or damage, and the shooter was in custody.
Lt. Tim Daily said a woman who claimed to be a bail bondsman was attempting to revoke a man's bond at a residence when an altercation occurred. Daily said the woman fired one round to stop the individual from fleeing. The woman was arrested down the block near the Hawkeye Convenience Store, and a handgun was recovered, police said.
"We do not sanction the use of warning shots, so there will probably be charges due to the shot being fired and as a result of the investigation," Daily said.
Steve Powell, 53, said he lives next door to the house where the shooting occurred, near the corner of First Avenue and 17th Street SE. After the gunshot, Powell said his girlfriend saw a woman with a gun who went west along the busy street. He said she was yelling something about who she was after.
Police said they know the identity of the man who was involved, but he has not come forward. An investigation was continuing.
