IOWA CITY — The man who died in a shooting last week was targeted, police believe.
“The circumstances surrounding this event are still being investigated, but the information gathered to this point does not support that this was a random act of violence,” Lt. Scott Gaarde told The Gazette.
Tommy Curry, 31, of Iowa City was shot in the 2400 block of Lakeside Drive around 8:04 p.m. April 28. He was found outdoors when police arrived, Gaarde said.

Curry was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he later was pronounced dead. An autopsy by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the death was a homicide.
Gaarde said police cannot say at this time if any suspects have been identified or if the weapon has been recovered. Police have spoken to several witnesses, Gaarde said.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Eric Nieland at (319) 356-5456 or eric-nieland@iowa-city.org. Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
