Three residents were not seriously injured and their dog was rescued in a northwest Cedar Rapids house fire early Sunday morning.
At 12:21 a.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the 7000 block of Brookhaven Drive NW for a single-family home on fire, according to a Cedar Rapids Fire Department news release.
A heavy fire in the garage had extended through the roof and spread into the house. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 30 minutes.
The three occupants were able to get out of the house and CRFD crews found their dog and rescued him through a basement window.
Medical treatment was needed but no one was taken to a hospital, the release stated.
The home sustained heavy smoke, fire and water damage and the residents were displaced.
The fire department noted their smoke alarms were working and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
