Police arrested a 20-year-old Cedar Rapids man Wednesday after he allegedly shot at another man in northeast Cedar Rapids.
Officers were dispatched at about 9 p.m. Wednesday after police received several calls reporting gunfire near Mound Farm Drive and 32nd Street NE, according to the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
When they arrived, officers spoke to a person who reported being shot at during an altercation. Police said the person confronted a man who was knocking over trash cans along 32nd Street NE.
No one was injured and no damaged property was found, police said.
Based on information provided by the person and other witnesses, police said officers detained a suspect — who was later identified as Jachai Dominique Alexander Crafton — after a stolen handgun was found in his possession.
Officers said Crafton also appeared to be intoxicated and was found in possession of marijuana.
A shell casing matching the caliber of the handgun Crafton was carrying was found in 1100 block of 32nd Street NE near the area where the person reported the incident.
Crafton faces charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, trafficking in stolen weapons, carrying weapons, possession or carrying firearms while under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication.
