Cedar Rapids man found with stolen gun at Ped Mall in Iowa City

IOWA CITY — A Cedar Rapids man was found with a stolen gun Saturday in downtown Iowa City.
An officer witnessed a fight involving Brandin M. Kiefer on the Pedestrian Mall around 1:52 a.m., according to Iowa City police criminal complaints. Kiefer turns 20 on Tuesday.
Police said when officers approached Kiefer, he fled while “clearly holding something in his front waist.” Kiefer approached a vehicle, leaned toward it and then ran, police said.

Police said they recovered a gun underneath the vehicle. The gun had been reported stolen out of Cedar Rapids.
Kiefer was captured and faces charges of trafficking in stolen weapons, control of a firearm by a felon and interference with official acts with a dangerous weapon, all Class D felonies. He also faces one count of carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Kiefer remains in custody on a $20,000 cash or surety bond.
