CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man arrested Tuesday on an attempted murder charge told police he wasn’t the man who fired a gun during a home burglary Sunday, according to court documents.
J. Reese Jones, 54, and two others, who are unnamed the complaint, entered a home at 2624 30th St. SW on Sunday morning. They demanded the homeowner take them to Michael Woodward, who was sleeping in a basement bedroom.
One of the men kicked the door in and once inside the room, one of the men shot Woodward in the outside upper thigh.

After Cedar Rapids police arrived at the scene, Woodward was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Jones admitted to being present at the house and having intent to assault Woodward, but he said another man shot him, authorities said.
Jones has been charged with attempt to commit murder and first-degree burglary. He’s being held in the Linn County Jail on a $65,000 cash-only bond.
