CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was charged Friday with attempted murder and other charges in a shooting Thursday night that left one man in critical condition from 'several gunshot wounds' over a $20 debt.
6th Judicial Associate District Judge Russell Keast ordered a $800,000 bail for Kent T. Stevens, 28, who appeared by video from the Linn County Jail Friday. An arraignment date will be set later.
Cedar Rapids police officers responded to 2125 Westdale Drive SW, Apt. 7, at 10:47 p.m. Thursday for 'numerous' reports of shots fired, according to the criminal complaint. The seriously wounded man, who police later identified as Isaac Chatman, 32, was found at that residence. There was no update on Chatman's condition as of 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to a release from the City of Cedar Rapids.

Stevens, who was found in the vicinity a short time later, admitted to police that he shot Chatman, according to the complaint. Later, Stevens also told police he shot the man over $20 and officers recovered a .40 caliber handgun from Stevens' waistband after he was taken in for questioning, the complaint states.
Stevens was charged Friday with attempted murder, willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm as a felon.
The seriously wounded man remains at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, according to the complaint.
Through their investigation, police determined the shooting took place in the parking lot.
Stevens has previous convictions for domestic abuse assaults.
If convicted, Stevens faces up to 25 years on the attempted murder, 10 years each for willful injury and intimidation and five years on the firearm charge.
